The festival is gorgeously held in the cities of Cuttack and Calcutta. In Cuttack there are many bazaars and lanes. In each bazaar and each lane, there is a puja-hall. In each hall people make many images. They are very nice to look at. In Calcutta this celebration is still more gorgeous.

The pathetic part of the celebration was the practice of animal-sacrifice before the image of Mother Durga. This system was a product of Hindu-superstition. However, the enlightened people have understood this mistake and the usage of animal-sacrifice has been abandoned.

Durga-Puja is one of the important festivals of Hindus. It is observed with much pomp and ceremony. It is a period of great rejoicing for the Indian people. For this the Government offices and the company offices are closed for a number of days. People, working at distant places, make for their respective homes to see their near and dear ones. Therefore we find a heavy rush and jam in trains and buses during this period. During this period, people spend many happy days with their loving ones.
